In response to the damage caused by heavy rainfall in the fall of 2021, the City of Abbotsford decided to engage GDM Construction to undertake the essential repair work on one of the bridges located within Bateman Park. Since November 2021, the affected section of the trail has regrettably remained inaccessible, resulting in a significant inconvenience for the neighboring communities.
The City of Abbotsford identified this particular bridge as a top priority, given its crucial role as a well-frequented route for families commuting to and from school. This trail serves as both a time-saving shortcut and a vital connector for various nearby neighborhoods, boasting multiple entry points. With the bridge temporarily out of commission, the community has been greatly impacted, with many members facing difficulties in their daily routines.
In September the GDM construction team began the bridge repair. The first initial step involved the removal of the existing wooden structure to clear the way to site preparation. Following this step, the team diligently executed excavation and subgrade work, laying out the groundwork for the construction of the endwalls. The GDM construction team proceeded to install the endwalls, further enhancing the bridge’s stability. They also placed rip rap materials on either side to reinforce the structure’s durability. Subsequently, the team carefully positioned the metal bridge structure in place and meticulously assembled the wooden framing. As the final touch, the site was thoroughly cleaned and tidied up, bringing this successful 2 week project to a close.
