Greystone Design Construction was hired by the City of Abbotsford to widen the dike at the Barrowtown Pump Station. Given the limited available space, GDM Construction collaborated closely with a geotechnical engineer to determine the optimal solution. It was concluded that the safest approach to widening the dike and expanding the road would entail the utilization of an Ankora Retaining Wall. In contrast, the use of a traditional MSE retaining wall would necessitate outward construction to accommodate gridded soil lines. Consequently, GDM Construction proceeded to erect a 10-ft high retaining wall to facilitate the expansion of the dike.
This was only one aspect of the City’s plan to upgrade the facility to safeguard the community in Fraser Valley’s Sumas Prairie. Barrowtown Pump station is still under improvement after the flood damage back in 2021.
